Earlier strikes at the airport this week killed four people. Flights were canceled or diverted and operations were suspended. Canada's embassy told people to stay away at 5:34 p.m., the US embassy followed at 8:03 p.m., and the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation acknowledged the incident at 8:34 p.m. Ambulances and helicopters went to the terminal. Firms in Riyadh told employees to work from home the next day. Saudi-backed Yemeni forces had pushed the Houthis back around Bab el-Mandeb this week. The Houthis have declared Saudi airspace a military zone and have been hitting oil sites and civilian airports. The World Petroleum Congress meets in Riyadh this week, with chief executives from ExxonMobil, Shell, TotalEnergies, and BP expected, and the Future Investment Initiative follows later this month. Organizers told Reuters both events will go ahead. The Wall Street Journal reported that the kingdom may be short of missile interceptors. Al Jazeera reported the same day that Trump said he had been briefed and is also considering renewed strikes on Iran. The war opened on 28 February.
The government statement, carried by Interfax, says the opening takes effect on 10 October and carries out the agreement between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. Oil companies will sign contracts with foreign buyers in step with the government. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said Russian refineries produce enough diesel for the home market and for this export volume. On 9 October Trump said the call with Putin set 300,000 metric tons right away, 500,000 tons in November, and 1 million tons after that. The US Treasury general license allows imports of Russian diesel through 7 April 2027.
ExxonMobil and BP America may each draw up to 2 million barrels. They return the crude plus extra barrels in 2027. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the loan is meant to keep refineries running. On Friday producers had shut in about 1.46 million barrels a day, 72 percent of Gulf of Mexico output, and had evacuated 129 platforms. About 500,000 barrels a day of refining capacity sat in the storm's projected path. Isaias came ashore in Florida on Saturday and was later downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone. Al Jazeera reported at least four deaths. On Wednesday AAA put US gasoline at $4.36 a gallon.
The Microsoft chief executive posted the essay on X on Saturday. He wants a human-readable record of each meaningful action, more than one model on an important job, and a notice to the people affected when a system fails, including which control failed. He calls the pause an emergency brake. He ties the outside controls to a 1970s rule that the program under limit has to leave the enforcement mechanism alone. He also wants the chain of thought readable, and he says a readable chain of thought still leaves the output itself to be checked.
Financial Times reporters George Hammond, Michael Acton, George Steer, and Arash Massoudi cited people with direct knowledge. The shapes they described are a full purchase, more equity, more computing power, or an acqui-hire in which Nvidia hires staff and licenses the technology. Reflection was valued at $25 billion in a March round. Nvidia has already put in $800 million. Former DeepMind researchers Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou founded the company in 2024. On Monday it released Beam, an open-weight model aimed at coding. Other backers include Sequoia, Disruptive, and 1789 Capital. Reuters said it could not immediately verify the report. People familiar with the talks said an agreement could come in the coming weeks, and that the talks could also end with no deal.
September had already cleared $1 million a day on the Persian Gulf to China route. The first week of October added about 40 percent. A US Gulf to Japan cargo was offered at $82 million, up about half in three weeks. Trafigura chartered a US Gulf to China voyage at $76 million, against $7 million to $10 million before the war, which works out near $38 a barrel in freight. Russell Hardy, chief executive of Vitol, called the shuttle runs through Hormuz very inefficient because ships wait on ship-to-ship transfers in the Gulf of Oman. Fearnleys said Suezmax and Aframax rates are rising with the supertanker shortage. A voyage from the United States or Brazil to Asia takes about twice as long as one to Europe, so a European buyer can bid more for the same ship.
Ledger Support said on Saturday that one affected device contained the implant. CryptoBilis, the shop Ledger lists for Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, stopped sales of its hardware-wallet stock. Ledger said its own systems show no sign of a compromise. Buyers from that shop who have not set a device up were told to leave it unset. People who already set one up were told to move coins to a new seed on a new signer. Earlier tracing put tied-down inflows above $86 million, and a Bitquery count put $92.9 million across 311 wallets on five chains.
Subhash Khot stated the unique games conjecture in 2002. It says that coloring a graph to satisfy even a tiny share of the edge rules stays hard in the cases where the best coloring still misses a few. Minzer, of MIT, and graduate students Fei and Wang proved a 4-to-1 variant, with four allowed colors on the far side of each edge. They posted a 95-page draft as ECCC report 2026/179 in mid-September, three days after rumors that OpenAI had a proof. On 6 October OpenAI released a unique-games proof together with 376 other results, including a Lean-checked 2-to-1 proof in an unedited manuscript. The 4-to-1 result implies that a graph which can be colored with three colors can still be hard to color when many extra colors are allowed. Prasad Raghavendra showed in 2008 that a true unique-games conjecture would make one classic algorithm the best available for every constraint problem that has no perfect solution.
Digital Optimus is Tesla's screen agent. It takes the picture of the game as its input. League of Legends is in training. The stated aim is play that carries from one game to another. Tesla's hiring note for the work points to TeslaSI.
The China Passenger Car Association counts retail and wholesale passenger vehicles. Its new-energy share covers battery-electric and plug-in hybrid cars. September wholesale reached 66.1 percent new-energy. For the full month, sales were up 10 percent from August.
Stack Overflow published the survey on 6 October. It drew 30,903 responses from 169 countries. On the trust question, 14,304 people answered: 6,872, or 48.0 percent, trust the output when they can check it, and 949, or 6.6 percent, trust it for important decisions. Coding assistants or coding agents are used by 66 percent, general chat tools by 63 percent, and automated agent workflows by 26 percent. Seventeen percent use no AI tools. About 79 percent called source attribution important when judging an AI-written technical answer. Chief executive Prashanth Chandrasekar said developers want to see where an answer came from and to check it.
Ian Muscat and Leanne Briffa registered the domains. ө is a Cyrillic barred o used in Kazakh, Mongolian, and Tatar. ƙ is a Latin k with a hook used in Hausa. Chrome and Edge display the names as ordinary words. In Punycode the same addresses show the difference. Their examples include lookalikes of Apple, Nike, and Okta, and the domains point at pages the researchers control. Chrome 154, which reached the stable channel on 22 September 2026, had added other confusable letters to its list.
The client speaks TLS 1.3 straight to the upstream host. On Juraj Bednar's node that host is Venice. The Routstr node forwards encrypted records and can attach its own API key. The node has no view of the prompt or the answer, and it cannot change a byte of the reply, tool calls included. Zero-knowledge proofs fix the model name and the token cap. Payment follows the usage the provider reports. The code and a paper are in the routstr-confidential repository, and a browser demo is up at routstr.cypherpunk.today. Routstr already settles the small payments in Cashu.
Science Advances published the paper on 7 October, volume 12, as adw8887. Lead author Benjamin Vaisvil is affiliated with the Kallel Foundation. The team compared Jonathan with other Aldabra tortoises, including a 5-year-old, and with the Pinta Island tortoise genome. They report 287 gene variants unique to him in pathways that include DNA repair, telomeres, insulin, mitochondria, and tumor suppression. Across the genome his methylation is more disordered than the young animals'. In 272 promoters, many of them tied to the mitochondrial electron-transport chain and to RNA processing, the methylation is as orderly as the juvenile's. Jonathan is an Aldabrachelys gigantea thought to have hatched in 1832. He lives at Plantation House on St Helena. Justin Gerlach of Cambridge is among the authors.
ChangXin Memory Technologies, based in Hefei, is China's main DRAM maker. A 4F² cell covers about two-thirds the area of a 6F² cell at the same feature size. A vertical surrounded-gate transistor is the class of device Samsung has put on a timeline around 2030, and that class uses an indium-gallium-zinc-oxide channel. The module is a DDR5 registered DIMM, the form servers use. A full 4F² cell is a large density jump, and the first silicon may be a partial version on the company's G5 process.
