The national phone and social-media alerts began in May. The last alert before last week's strikes was on 29 September, for Najran. Reuters reported at least 18 people killed and more than 300 wounded across four attacks on Riyadh in the past week. The government has given no reason for the quiet period. King Khalid International was still closed on 12 October.
The International Organization for Migration said the boat carried 305 people from Djibouti toward Yemen and went down near Guhere, north of Obock, on the night of 8 October into 9 October. Eighty-two survivors were Ethiopian. The agency first counted 109 dead and later added 30 bodies. It called the wreck one of the deadliest on the eastern route from the Horn of Africa to the Arabian Peninsula. Alexandre Coissac, the agency's chief of mission in Djibouti, said the count covers people buried by the authorities there.
Muse Wonder is open today on the Meta Model API and in Muse Code at $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens. Muse Wonder Full is on Muse Code for subscribers. Both take text, images, audio, and video in a one-million-token window, and Meta trained them at its Prometheus data centre. Active Memory keeps details across conversations, and Active Focus keeps a task going when a step fails. The series follows Muse Spark. Meta's personal agent, Muse, launched in the United States on 8 September. Wired reported that Meta's largest version ranks above Claude Fable 5.1 and below Claude Opus 5.5 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index.
Scott Guthrie, executive vice president for Cloud and AI, said production deployments of Maia 300 begin in 2027. The chip uses eight stacks of HBM4 memory, 18 terabytes per second of bandwidth, and a 950-watt power limit, with the compute chiplets on TSMC's N2P process. A rack holds 96 accelerators inside 167 kilowatts, with 27.6 terabytes of memory and 1.7 petabytes per second of aggregate bandwidth, and Microsoft expects up to seven times the token throughput of a Maia 200 rack. The company states a 40 percent gain in tokens per megawatt against leading GPU systems. Maia 200 is already running in the United States, Europe, and Australia, at up to 1.7 times the tokens per watt of leading GPUs on Teams, Copilot, and Cowork. GitHub Copilot and Microsoft Foundry are due on Maia 200 by the end of 2026.
Hall is at Stanford and took his PhD at MIT in 1967. Woodford is at Columbia and took his PhD at MIT in 1983. The prize is 12 million Swedish kronor, split evenly. Their models treat households and firms as forward-looking, so a stated plan from a central bank can change spending and prices before the policy arrives. John Hassler, chair of the prize committee, said central banks and governments now use that foundation when they answer shocks such as an energy crisis. The award was announced on 12 October.
The family covers cruise, ballistic, and hypersonic threats, with booster diameters of 10, 18, and 21 inches. Anduril says the missiles fit the M903A2 launcher, the Mk 41 vertical launch system, and Typhon, and that they can take targeting from Aegis or IBCS. Ballistic tests with representative air vehicles are done, and flight tests are planned for next year. Chris Brose, president and chief strategy officer, put the price target at a third of a PAC-3 MSE interceptor. Stephen Milano said the smallest version matches the Army Future Interceptor slot between PAC-3 MSE and the THAAD Talon. Near-term output is on the order of several thousand a year, with full-rate production aimed at the end of 2028 or the start of 2029.
Boris Blokhin, the exchange's senior managing director for sales and business development, told Interfax that tests with professional firms had already started. Federal Law 282-FZ took effect on 1 September and routes crypto through licensed exchanges, brokers, and digital depositories. The Bank of Russia registered the first five digital depositories and four exchange operators on 6 October. An unqualified investor may buy bitcoin, ether, and USDT, up to 300,000 rubles a year through each intermediary, after a knowledge test. On 22 September the same exchange listed ruble-settled futures on bitcoin, ether, Solana, XRP, and Tron indexes.
Amendment I-CF821, from Charles de Courson, Jean-Pierre Bataille, and Michel Castellani of the LIOT group, sets the test on 31 December and a fine of up to €10,000 for a missed declaration. The committee also adopted I-CF1822, an exit tax on unrealized crypto gains above €800,000 when a person moves their tax home out of France, and I-CF1826, a tax from 1 January 2027 on gains when crypto is converted into a stablecoin under the European MiCA rules. The three texts still have to clear the full Assembly, the Senate, and the 2027 finance bill.
On Home and Pro installs for personal use, setup asks for a Microsoft account. Clicking Learn More on that screen had jumped straight to a local username and password. Bob Pony documented the path. The Register tried it on Intel hardware and confirmed the jump, then found the same click staying on the account screen after a server-side change. In 2025 Microsoft removed the bypassnro command from Windows 11 test builds.
The release manager is Hugo van Kemenade. PEP 810 adds lazy import, so a heavy module loads the first time the program uses it. PEP 798 lets a comprehension unpack lists, sets, and dicts. The new profiler, Tachyon, lives in profiling.sampling and takes stack samples from a running process. Python 3.10, released in 2021, leaves the supported set with this release. Miguel Grinberg measured the experimental JIT at about 1.2 times the plain 3.15 interpreter on a Fibonacci test, with the rest of 3.15 close to 3.14.
Cognition built the tasks with open-source maintainers, more than 40 hours of work on each one, and kept them private. The launch set is the main 100 of 150 tasks, run in the Stirrup harness. A run that fails a blocking check scores zero. A run that passes every blocker scores from 70 to 100 percent. Claude Opus 5.5 leads at 52 percent, after clearing blockers on 58 percent of attempts. Nine models from six labs sit between 43 and 52 percent. The leading open-weights model is MiMo-V2.6-Pro at 45 percent. GPT-6.1 Sol scores 49 percent at $0.81 a task. Nine tasks went unsolved in every attempt. Cognition introduced FrontierCode in June 2026 and moved it to version 1.1 in July.
Blaise Mariner, Noah Snyder-Mackler, and colleagues published the work on 8 October in Science, volume 394. They read 1,640 DNA methylation profiles from 894 dogs in the Dog Aging Project. Larger dogs showed 27 percent stronger age-linked methylation changes overall and 31 percent stronger changes at transposable elements such as LINE-1. Each year that epigenetic age ran ahead of the dog's calendar age lined up with a 15 percent higher risk of death. Promoters tended to gain methylation with age, and transposable elements tended to lose it. Snyder-Mackler is at Arizona State University.
Igor Babuschkin, the chief executive, said custom models built for one company's work have come in at 1 percent of the cost of a general frontier model, or below that, on the jobs those customers measured. Coinbase fine-tuned Qwen3.5-9B on internal fraud data and beat general frontier models on that task. River opened public inference on 11 October for DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and GLM-5.3 Flash at 20 percent under those providers' rates, with $25 in credits for a new account. Babuschkin previously worked at xAI.
Verano is the low-power EPYC 9006 part, on a platform called Socket SB1, with up to 72 Zen 6 cores, clocks up to 5 GHz, and LPDDR5X memory on as many as 24 channels. AMD has aimed it at AI host nodes and scheduled it for 2027. The summit runs from 12 October through 15 October in San Jose. A Dynatron cooler listing earlier in October was the first public naming of Socket SB1.
Tim Sweeney, the chief executive, said the reassignment is already underway. Epic makes Fortnite and licenses Unreal Engine to outside studios. The stated goal is a larger output from the current staff, shared with every team on the engine.
Juraj Bednar ran all six Decision 3.0 sizes from vLLM Semantic Router locally in MLX on an M2 Max. The 27-billion-parameter model, at 4-bit weights, also stopped 140 of 150 instructions planted in ordinary email, and it blocked 7 benign items. The cloud model he uses, Jev, stopped 383 attacks and 138 planted emails and blocked 10 benign items. The 27-billion-parameter run took about 7 seconds and 17 gigabytes. The smallest model, d3-lite, has 0.85 billion parameters and returns in about a fifth of a second.
Juraj Bednar's open-source client talks to Amazon directly. The Android build registers as a printer, so a page behind a login can go to the Kindle as a PDF or as a reflowed article. The Firefox and Chrome extension sends the article and its pictures and leaves out the menus, ads, and comments. Amazon's own Send to Kindle path uses a separate email address for each device.
The same site counted 3,667,907 bitcoin on centralized exchanges at 23:54 UTC on 10 October. The tracer shows the latest 10 transactions on an address, marks them incoming or outgoing, and can expand a branch in either direction. A saved investigation can be shared as a read-only link. Exports include SVG and high-resolution PNG.
