The four-day online survey closed on Monday and reached 1,679 U.S. adults, including 1,279 registered voters. The margin of error was 2 points for all adults and 3 points for registered voters. Approval was down 1 point from two weeks earlier. Among registered voters, 47 percent chose a Democrat and 35 percent a Republican if the election were held that day, the widest Democratic lead in this cycle of the poll. The midterm election is on 3 November. Sixty-eight percent disapproved of Trump's handling of the economy. A Washington Post/ABC/Ipsos poll the same day put approval at 33 percent. An NBC poll on Sunday found 71 percent said the country was on the wrong track. RealClearPolitics had approval at 38.9 percent.
Musk wrote on Monday that next year he will give one of his SpaceX shares to every kid in America, and that this will be the first of many. SpaceX shares closed Friday near $148. Census figures put the under-18 population near 72 million, which would value the gift near $10.5 billion. Musk controls more than 6.4 billion shares. A lockup on the bulk of his stock runs until June 2027 after the June initial public offering. The White House said 60 million Trump Accounts were created automatically in October. Children born from 2025 through 2028 are eligible for a one-time $1,000 federal contribution. Michael and Susan Dell have pledged $6.25 billion to the accounts. SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell pledged shares for 2 million accounts. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said more than $8 billion has already been deposited.
Haines, 65, holds the Victorian seat of Indi. Victoria Police said a white Toyota Land Cruiser hit her on Murphy Street at 15:35. Witnesses told Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke the driver made a U-turn, rammed her against another vehicle, reversed, and struck her a second time. A knife was found in the car. A 43-year-old man from Tarrawingee, about 10 kilometers away, was detained at the scene by bystanders, including barber Ricky Jefferies. Haines was moved from Wangaratta hospital to Melbourne's Alfred Hospital by helicopter for surgery. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the Australian Federal Police, Asio, and a joint counter-terror taskforce were investigating. Reports of threatening or harassing behaviour toward politicians rose from 951 to 1,067 in the past year.
Speaker Hisham Badawi adjourned a second closed-door session on Monday. The constitution requires a two-thirds majority to send armed forces on a combat mission abroad, after consultation with the National Defence Council. President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Saturday that Egypt would take any measure necessary to protect Gulf allies. The National Defence Council, meeting on Sunday under Sisi, said Egypt would give Saudi Arabia all necessary and possible support. The Egyptian Social Democratic Party told its lawmakers to abstain, saying parliament had not been given the mission's objectives, duration, cost, or risks to troops. Houthi attacks last week included a strike on Riyadh airport that Saudi authorities said killed 13 people. Al-Azhar's grand imam called on Sunday for Arab and Muslim mediation.
Liftoff was at 4:41 a.m. Japan time on 20 October, 19:41 UTC on 19 October. JAXA's MMX is intended to collect at least 10 grams of material from Phobos and return it to Earth in 2031. Arrival at Mars is planned for August 2027. The French-German rover Idefix, built by CNES and DLR, is due to land on Phobos around 2029 for about 100 days of scouting before the main spacecraft's sampling landings. The mission is budgeted at about $578 million. It is the first interplanetary flight for the H3. The H3-24 configuration with four boosters previously flew HTV-X1 to the International Space Station in October 2025. NASA has landed nine spacecraft on Mars; no mission has returned samples from Phobos or Deimos.
The release is SB0663, dated 19 October. Financial institutions filed nearly 100 suspicious activity reports after a 24 July FinCEN alert. The review found more than 20,000 potentially suspicious transactions since February 2026. FinCEN referred the reports to investigators as tip-and-lead information. The $270 million is flagged activity. Ghost-student schemes use stolen names and Social Security numbers, including those of minors, to enroll fake students and collect refunds. Straw-student schemes pay people for their personal information and keep the refunds. Education Secretary Linda McMahon said a new FAFSA fraud-detection tool had already saved more than $2 billion in less than two years. The July alert told banks to watch electronic refunds that carry a school's name or initials.
The 10-year French yield was 4.93 percent on 19 October, up from 4.80 percent, against 4.57 percent for Italy and 4.39 percent for Greece. The German bund was 3.47 percent. Amendment I-3898, tabled by Nicolas Sansu and 16 other GDR deputies, passed the Assembly on 16 October by 38 votes to 37, with 25 abstentions, on scrutin n° 8836. It would tax gains on crypto swaps into MiCA electronic-money tokens, including USDC and EURC, from 1 January 2027 at the 31.4 percent flat rate of 12.8 percent income tax plus 18.6 percent social levies. The annual exemption of €305 of disposals stays. The Assembly's vote on the first part of the 2027 finance bill is on 20 October. The Senate still has to take the budget. Interior figures put weekend riot arrests above 2,000.
DekaBank, the savings banks' investment house, supplies the product as Krypto, powered by Deka. Custody is with DekaBank and Boerse Stuttgart. BaFin granted Deka the crypto license in 2025. Five Sparkassen listed at launch: Frankfurter Sparkasse, Taunus Sparkasse, Sparkasse Karlsruhe, Sparkasse Rottal-Inn, and Niederrheinische Sparkasse RheinLippe. Germany has 339 Sparkassen. The German Savings Banks Association said 30 to 40 more are expected to join each month, with each bank choosing its own start date. Customers cannot withdraw coins to their own wallets. The group had advised against offering crypto about four years ago.
Qatar's share of helium into China fell to 6.5 percent by August, and the U.S. share rose to 20 percent. The dollar value of China's helium imports changed little, which implies a sharp drop in volume from 2025. The United States is the largest helium exporter. Qatar's Ras Laffan plants sit on the same Gulf logistics that the war has disrupted. Russia's Amur plant is the low-cost supplier filling China's gap. Helium is used in semiconductor fabrication, magnetic resonance imaging magnets, and leak testing. Industries that can substitute other gases are cutting demand at the new price.
Northeast Asian sulfur prices rose in the third quarter. Harmonized code 3103 covers phosphatic fertilizers, including monoammonium phosphate. Those export values are above last year's average, which can follow from higher prices. Natural-gas and oil-derived feedstock from the Persian Gulf is the usual source of sulfur for phosphate fertilizer. Less of that feedstock this year means less MAP for importers in the global south that buy from China. China has used MAP export pauses before when domestic farm supply was tight.
The company disclosed a security issue on 12 October and confirmed on 19 October that the activity was malicious. It filed a police report in the Netherlands the same day. Albert Heijn's website and app are back, with home deliveries expected from 23 October. Etos and Gall & Gall sites are up. Belgian e-commerce is running. U.S. banners Stop & Shop, Food Lion, Giant Food, Hannaford, and The Giant Company still have sites and apps down, with restoration expected in the coming days. Physical stores stayed open. Ahold Delhaize said it has no evidence that customer, associate, or partner data was taken. The group runs more than 9,400 stores. A November 2024 incident hit Giant Food pharmacies and Hannaford, and also Food Lion, The Giant Company, and Stop & Shop.
The new pieces include Guardian Agents, which supervise other agents, and Dynamic Agent Risk, which scores an agent's configuration, reach, and drift from the user's intent. Project Perception launched in the summer with red, blue, and green agent teams aimed at outside attackers. Nadim Abdo, corporate vice president for identity and network access, said the stack now treats in-house agents as insider risk. Project Perception and Microsoft Agent 365 share a registry of agents. The capabilities ship with Microsoft 365 E7. Vasu Jakkal's security post quoted Nadella: the most trustworthy agentic system is the one designed so the operator can trust the model least. Project Perception was built after Anthropic's Mythos and Fable and OpenAI's Daybreak scanning tools.
The paper is Park, Kumaran, Hsu, Olivetti, and Li, Nature Communications, doi 10.1038/s41467-026-76378-7, titled Scaling multimodal materials representation learning with synthetic narratives, dated 18 October. The model is trained with contrastive learning on synthetic narratives of composition, structure, properties, processing, and uses, drawn from papers and first-principles databases. Asked for solid-state lithium-ion battery electrolytes, its top hits included compounds already flagged as candidates. Ju Li is the Carl Richard Soderberg Professor in Power Engineering in MIT's Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Elsa Olivetti is the Jerry McAfee Professor in that department. Funders include the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency, DARPA, and the National Research Foundation of Korea. Crystals make up more than 90 percent of solid materials.
The trial is ZZ-FIRST, NCT04332744, published 14 October in Nature Medicine by Zacchi, Castro, Mateo, and colleagues at VHIO and Spanish sites. Fifty-four men starting androgen deprivation therapy received two cycles of enzalutamide, then 1:2 randomisation to enzalutamide (17) or enzalutamide plus talazoparib (37). The primary endpoint was PSA below 0.2 ng/ml at 12 months. The combination arm hit 73 percent (95 percent CI 56-86), above the prespecified threshold. The control arm was 64.7 percent (38-86); the between-arm P value was 0.54. Median radiographic progression-free survival was 45.3 months versus 31.1 months. Grade 3 or worse adverse events were 68 percent versus 35 percent, with anemia in 41 percent of the combination arm. Two fatal therapy-emergent myeloid neoplasms occurred in the combination arm in patients with underlying genomic susceptibility. TALAPRO-3 earlier showed an rPFS benefit in men with homologous-recombination-repair alterations.
The pack supports 2C charging. Cabin volume is 18.3 cubic meters. A CPCA survey of prospective new-energy light-truck buyers put range and charging first at 24.8 percent of mentions and payload second at 19.6 percent. Total cost of ownership is the third factor. BYD is using the same upgrades on the T5. The T4 competes in China's electric light-commercial class, where payload and recharge time decide fleet purchases.
Li is BYD's executive vice president and heads overseas operations. The extra ships will move vehicles among BYD's plants outside China as well as from China, so a given market can take the mix it needs. BYD already builds cars and trucks in several countries. A PCTC is a roll-on/roll-off ship for finished vehicles. Eight ships in service plus ten on order is an 18-ship program.
Baidu, Huawei, and China Telecom followed. Tencent's recent move was tying its stack to DeepSeek and selling the WorkBuddy assistant to businesses. Alibaba Cloud is Aliyun. ByteDance's cloud sits under Volcano Engine. Huawei sells through CloudMatrix and Ascend silicon. The 2025 shares are a full-year snapshot; 2026 bidding is still open.
Yuan Up, Seagull, Song Plus, and Dolphin are BYD. Galaxy and Xingyuan are Geely. MG is SAIC. Leapmotor is now under Stellantis for Europe. Model 3 is Tesla's Shanghai-built sedan. BYD still leads the export list, and Geely is the nearest group competitor on that sheet.
The paper is in Foods, volume 15, issue 20, article 3657, doi 10.3390/foods15203657. Foods is an MDPI journal. The worms are Caenorhabditis elegans strains that express human amyloid-beta. NMN is a precursor of NAD+. David Sinclair is a professor at Harvard Medical School and a cofounder of Life Biosciences. C. elegans is a first-pass screen for gut and aging claims; the same bacteria have not been shown to treat Alzheimer's in people.
Juraj Bednár said none of the bugs was remotely exploitable or critical, and that shops taking bitcoin through CashuPayServer should upgrade. Payment requests now work with any standard Cashu wallet: a QR code, a payment, and a Paid mark. Newer wallets get the compact creqB QR. The dashboard warns if the wallet database is web-reachable, and a new install can move the data in one click. The server is PHP on cheap hosting, speaks the BTCPay Server API, and settles through a Cashu mint with no bitcoin node. The auditors this round were DeepSeek 4.1 Flash 1017, Claude Opus 5.5, and MiniMax M3.1, also called Space Bunny. MiniMax M3.1 found a higher-severity bug the earlier scans missed. Files are at cashupayserver.org.
There is no phone number, email, or provider account. Identities are created on the device. The protocol is Nostr Double Ratchet: separate sessions for direct chats and per-sender keys for groups, so senders can refresh keys without shared group state. White Noise uses Marmot, which is based on Messaging Layer Security. A command-line client, iris-chat, lets scripts and agents send messages. Pre-built installs cover Mac and Linux; source builds with cargo install iris-chat. The site is irischat.org. Malmi, also known as Sirius, wrote early Bitcoin code in 2009-2011 and built the iris.to Nostr client.
