The Superior Electoral Court counted 64,256,232 votes for Lula and 59,826,041 for Flávio Bolsonaro, 48.21 percent, a margin of 4,430,191 votes. Court president Kassio Nunes Marques announced the result on Sunday night. In the first round on 4 October, Flávio Bolsonaro led with 56,104,503 votes, 47.03 percent, to Lula's 53,879,538, 45.16 percent, a gap of about 2.2 million. Lula is the first candidate since direct presidential elections returned in 1989 to overturn a first-round deficit in the runoff. Flávio Bolsonaro refused to concede and said he would ask a court to annul the vote over Justice Cristiano Zanin's order, issued three minutes before the scheduled close, to keep polls open until 19:00 in Brasília. Both campaigns had asked for more time. Lula turns 81 on 27 October. PBS reported that the fourth term begins on 5 January 2027. In 2022 Lula beat Jair Bolsonaro by 50.9 percent to 49.1 percent.
Anthropic filed the registration statement on 26 October for the Nasdaq Global Select Market. The share count and the price range are still unset, and the registration statement has not become effective. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are the underwriters. Semafor's reading of the filing puts future compute and infrastructure lease obligations at $417 billion as of June. The first-half net loss was $81 billion, mostly derivative accounting that rises with the valuation, and the operating loss for those six months was $700 million. The company expects $24 billion of stock-based compensation for 5,300 employees, about $4.5 million each. Seven co-founders control the company through one golden share of supervoting stock, and a simple majority of the seven decides how that share votes. A council of financially disinterested AI-safety trustees chooses a majority of the board, and the founder group chooses the rest. Amazon and Google receive nonvoting stock. The five largest customers are about a quarter of revenue, and nearly half of revenue comes from Azure, Google Cloud, and AWS. The 318-page filing names China 11 times and warns that advanced systems could pose catastrophic or existential risk if misused, replicated, weaponized, or left highly autonomous.
Latvia's Road Traffic Safety Directorate recognized the Dutch RDW provisional EU type approval of 10 April 2026. Tesla filed the recognition request on 13 April. The over-the-air update is priced at €99 a month, about $116, and the driver remains legally responsible. The other EU countries that have cleared the system are the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium, Slovenia, Czechia, Croatia, and Slovakia. Slovakia's approval came on 16 October. A bloc-wide vote needs a qualified majority of at least 15 of 27 member states representing 65 percent of the EU population. The directorate warned that snow, mud, and road salt can degrade the cameras and sensors, that gravel roads may be only partly covered, and that the system can hand control back without warning.
Foundation makes the Passport, a Bitcoin-only hardware wallet. On 25 October it traced the mail to compromised Cloudflare API keys, revoked those keys, and took the malicious domain down. On 26 October it counted more than 23,000 phishing attempts, with 19,057 delivered through Mailgun and 1,503 through Google Workspace. Legacy WooCommerce tables still held names, shipping details, and incomplete checkouts after the move to Shopify in May, even though the store admin showed those orders as redacted. The messages told recipients a supplier had modified a display module and asked them to enter a new recovery phrase. Foundation said it has found no evidence that Passport devices or the private keys on them were exposed. Keystone said the attacker who reached its Shopify site, detected on 20 October, also took the WebAuth key written into devices at the factory. That key checks whether a unit is genuine and plays no part in creating a seed or signing a transaction. Keystone will destroy 18,835 inventory devices that carry the key, pause unshipped website orders, and put a new key on the next production run. The breach exposed 25,964 buyer records from 2024 to 2026, including names, contact details, addresses, and order lines. A device delivered before 20 October that passes the check is genuine. Keystone said it cannot completely rule out a counterfeit among old-key units received after that date.
BTCPay Server is a self-hosted Bitcoin payment processor. The update is in Server Settings, then Maintenance, then Update, or by running btcpay-update.sh. The Brotli issue is CVE-2026-111497, also called Broccoli2Shell, an out-of-bounds write in the C decoder in versions 1.0.3 through 1.2.0, scored 9.2. Google fixed it in Brotli 1.0.10, 1.1.1, and 1.2.1. Node.js shipped fixes in 22.23.4, 24.22.1, and 26.12.1. Eight eMudhra intermediate certificate authorities had P-384 private keys that were integers below 256, the values 4, 56, 66, 115, 155, 156, 230, and 237, so anyone with the public certificates could recover the keys. A researcher reported them to the browser root programs on 17 October. eMudhra revoked the eight intermediates on 18 October. Six were for TLS and two for code signing, and Sectigo had cross-signed the same keys. Mozilla has removed trust in the emSign ECC Root CA - G3 above them.
The paper is in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, doi 10.1093/mnras/stag1469, under the title Introducing the Lumina project. Jennifer Chu reported it for MIT News on 26 October. First author Oliver Zier is a former postdoc in Mark Vogelsberger's lab. MIT co-authors are Vogelsberger, Xuejian (Jacob) Shen, and Teodora-Elena Bluichi. The other authors are Rongrong Liu, Sonja Koehler, and Lars Hernquist of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Aaron Smith of the University of Texas at Dallas, Rahul Kannan of York University, and Volker Springel and Rüdiger Pakmor of the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics. The volume is 500 megaparsecs, about 1.6 billion light-years, 100 times the previous best volume, at about 30 times the resolution of IllustrisTNG, and it tracks half a trillion elements. The run starts about 45 million years after the Big Bang. It follows hydrogen reionization, driven by early galaxies and stars, and helium reionization, driven by accreting supermassive black holes, in the same calculation. The team ran it on Frontier at Oak Ridge, at a peak equivalent of more than 100,000 CPU cores and about 15,000 GPUs. The project site is lumina-simulation.com. NASA and the National Science Foundation supported the work. The press contact is Abby Abazorius, abbya@mit.edu, 617-253-2709.
The paper is in Cell, doi 10.1016/j.cell.2026.06.012. Ho is a microbiologist and structural biologist at Columbia. Cryo-electron microscopy shows four protein units at each anchor. The parasite injects three proteins that form a dense wedge under the membrane and a fourth that connects the wedge to the invader. Electrostatic forces and pressure crowd the lipids, reverse the membrane's curvature, and leave some lipids reassembled as a membrane around the parasite. The gap closes in under a minute. The World Health Organization counts about 600,000 malaria deaths a year. The team used an AI protein-design platform to make an inhibitory protein that blocked invasion in test tubes. Safety and efficacy have not been tested in animals. The same machinery appears in Toxoplasma gondii and Cyclospora. The Simons Foundation funded part of the work.
The pull adds the mailbox flag, reading the dynamic-capacity configuration, DSMAS entries for partitions, dynamic-capacity interrupts, and a cleanup of partition order. A Dynamic Capacity Device is Type-3 CXL memory that can grow or shrink without a reboot. The same pull allows zero-sized HDM decoders, hardens switch decoders, counts link width in the latency figure, and reworks the GPF timeout.
Nova Lake laptops are expected next year. The IPU6 driver now also covers IPU7 and IPU7.5, the Panther Lake generation. A separate IPU7 driver landed in 6.17. New sensors in the pull include the Sony IMX576, OmniVision OS02G10, OV05C10, and OG0VA1B, Samsung S5KJN5, and Himax HM1246, plus the Maxim GMSL2 and GMSL3 parts MAX9296A, MAX96717, and MAX96724.
The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 pairs four Zen 5 cores with eight Zen 5C cores. The smaller cores run at 3.3 GHz with 8 MB of L3, against about 5.1 GHz and 16 MB on the larger cores. A bug reported in August on Gentoo left a full Clang LTO compile pinned to the Zen 5C cores. Tim Chen's scheduler fix, merged on Sunday, lets asymmetric packing win when a higher-priority core is idle. The fix is marked for backport to Linux 7.2 and 7.3.
Maintainers agreed to the split at the Linux Maintainers Summit. David Hildenbrand of Arm sent the inaugural pull. This cycle sets up the tree, moves smaller memory-management pieces, and wires the linux-next workflow. Linux 7.4 still also pulls slab, memblock, and Andrew Morton's MM branch. For 7.5, component trees are due to merge into one MM integration tree, with fewer patches going through Andrew. The first patches touch get_user_pages and memory hotplug.
The stub sets LoaderDevicePartUUID from the GPT HD() device node so systemd-gpt-auto-generator can find the disk. LoaderInfo is the sentinel: when it is already set, an earlier stage has published the variables and the stub leaves them in place. GRUB and systemd-boot already set these variables. The series is from Vincent Mailhol. The Boot Loader Interface is documented at systemd.io/BOOT_LOADER_INTERFACE.
Donenfeld is the author of WireGuard. kwin-type 0.1 types into a Wayland session under KWin 6.8 and later through the org_kde_kwin_fake_input and org_kde_kwin_keystate protocols, including caps lock. The code is at git.zx2c4.com/kwin-type. He built it so password-store can auto-type under Plasma 6.8 on Wayland, after a portal-type attempt that used libportal and libei.
The release lets each monitor set its own resolution, refresh, and rotation, and the mode option can be repeated. The change is pull 542, tagged v10.1.0. GNOME OS and KDE Linux also use KMSCON. KMSCON is a userspace terminal built on DRM and kernel mode setting.
The default covers Panfrost and PanVK on Mali v9, Valhall, and newer. Kraid merged in Mesa 26.2 in June. Mesa 27.0 is due in the first quarter. Collabora measured OpenGL instruction counts down nearly 20 percent and a few percent higher frame rate.
The tree is github.com/Twilight0/nouveau-dkms, with nouveau-utils beside it. On Fermi cards, about 16 years old, it reclocks the core, the shaders, voltage, PCIe Gen1 and Gen2, and bidirectional DDR3. The roadmap names Kepler, Maxwell, and Pascal next. Upstream Nouveau and Nova focus on Turing and newer, which use the GPU System Processor. Part of the motive is AliveOS, a minimalist Arch-based distribution expected in early 2027, with Cinnamon, XLibre, and Btrfs snapshots. The reclocking is downstream and is not in mainline yet.
